5 Ways to Crush Your Goals By Lori A. Manns
No matter what time of year it is, most people who desire to succeed, have a list of goals. If you consider yourself a purpose-driven professional or business owner, you may have a list of goals that you want to accomplish in the next year, 5 years, 10 years and so on. The question is, how do you not only reach your goals but crush them? I mean knock them out of the park? Ask 100 different people that question and you’d probably get 100 different answers. However, I’d like to take a stab at giving you a few ways that I believe you can truly crush your goals.
1. Consider what is most important to you.
Every entrepreneur should have long-term and short-term goals. Your long-term goals are the things you want to accomplish in the future perhaps in 7 to 10 years. Your short term goals are the things you want to accomplish in the next few months or couple of years.
There are also primary and secondary goals. Your primary goals are the things on your short-term goals list that take precedence over everything else. The secondary goals are things you want to accomplish on your short-term list or on your long-term list but they are not a priority at the top of either list.
No matter how you classify your goals, you must get serious about what you are trying to accomplish and by when. It is very important to create a plan with tactics and activities that will get you closer to your goals.
Finally, by all means, give your goals deadline. Goals without deadlines are just wishful thinking.
2. Focus on one strategy at a time.
Having focus will enable you to devote your time, energy and resources into completing one goal before you begin another one. When you utilize strategies to achieve goals you get better results. For example, if you decide that you want to obtain more speaking engagements, your strategy must begin reaching out to organizers of online and off-line events. You might begin by following the decision makers on social media and obtaining their contact information to call or email them. Whatever strategy you choose, focus all your energy in that one strategy for a dedicated amount of time in order to see how well it is working.
3. Complete two daily actions towards your goals.
As the saying goes, “you can’t eat an elephant in one bite.” The same is true about your goals. You can’t accomplish a major goal in one hour or one day. Chances are, you are going to need a solid long-term approach to accomplish your goals over a period of time. That said, if you take consistent daily action toward your gaol, you are more likely to achieve it.
The key with daily action is having discipline. Think of it this way, it takes twelve inches to make up a foot. It takes 5,280 feet to make up a mile. If you start out to walk a 10K race, you can only walk one foot at a time. The same is true for your goals. You can only accomplish one task at a time. Be consistent about choosing what 2 or 3 tasks you will complete each and every day. Before you know it, you will have reached your goals.
4. Surround yourself with a team of support.
There are many benefits to hiring a team. It doesn’t matter how great you are at running a business, at some point, you will need to solicit the help of others to grow. Having other professionals to collaborate with is a given in business. Having a team means that your business should become more productive. When hiring team members, it is vital to consider people with diverse skills and backgrounds, this allows for you to have different layers for ideas and helps to limit biases. Most importantly, you need a team to scale your business for success.
5. Hire a business coach for mentorship and accountability.
Whether you are a small business owner who is emerging into business (start-up) or and experienced entrepreneur, at some point you will need the expertise of a business coach or consultant. There are many advantages to hiring a business coach from having expert feedback and guidance to someone holding you accountable as well as helping you become more confident. These days, confidence is just like currency.
Speaking of currency, hiring a business coach typically results in you making more money. According Inc.com making more money is just one of the advantages of having a business coach.
I can speak from personal experience. After I hired my first business coach, I increase my income. After I hired my second business coach, I increased my income. With every decision that I’ve made to invest in myself through coaching, it has helped me to grow in some area of my business.
As you can see, there are many ways to go about crushing your goals to grow your business and professional career. However, the most important thing you can do for yourself is to ask this simple question, “what do I want?” When you know the answer to that question, you can go about creating the goals for your life and your business that will bring you happiness. After all, life is about creating the experiences that bring us bliss.
Now, I’d like to hear from you. What are some of the ways you have crushed your goals? Please share your two cents in the comments below.
