Expert

No matter what industry you’re in, it helps to be seen as an expert in your field. There are many advantages for being viewed as an industry expert, for example: speaking opportunities, press coverage, media enagements, joint venture partnerships and more. If you want to be viewed as the “go-to” guru in your industry on any particular topic, you’ll want to position yourself as an expert. Below, I’ve listed 5 tips that will help you to position yourself as an expert.

1. Speaking

Becoming a speaker will afford you with many opportunities to grow your network and customer base. You should have a few talks ready on various topics that are considered “hot topics” in your industry. Having a signature talk will allow you to position yourself as an expert on that particular topic.

2. Blogging

Every business should have a blog. Having a blog is a key component of doing business in the 21st century. Blogging is how you showcase your expertise and educate your target audience about subject matter they care about.

3. Q&A Platform

If you’re in business, your prospects and customers are going to have questions. Why not provide them with a simple and easy to use platform for getting their questions answered? You can have a Q & A platform in many ways.  Whether you have a questions and answers section on your website or your social media pages, it will help to position you as an expert to answer not only the ‘frequently asked questions’ but common industry questions as well. Think about what are some of the most common questions people ask you that are not in your industry. If you create a platform to answer those questions, you will be seen as an expert.

4. Host events

Hosting events is going to give you a platform to better understand who your customers and followers are. People who attend events that you host or where you will be appearing, are interested in you and what you have to say. It’s safe to say these people view you as someone who they can learn from as well as someone they would like to network with. When you host events or participate in events, you position yourself as an expert in your industry because not every one can host an effective event and not everyone will be invited to participate as a guest speaker at a respected industry event.

5. Become a Published Author

Being an author gives you expert status. Publishing your own material in printed form is going to set you aside from most entrepreneurs. Whether you write a book and self publish it or you write an e-book and sell it on Amazon or via your website, you will be viewed as an expert on that subject matter. Becoming a published author gives you credentials that most entrepreneurs do not have.

Now it’s your turn. Have you positioned yourself as an expert? What did you do? How did your positioning work for you?
